Mental Health Resources

Main content start

No one person's mental health needs are the same, so we offer you many ways to access mental health services. We have services that you can access wherever you are comfortable, whether in the therapist's office, your home, office, a park, or wherever you have an internet connection.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis and believes life is in danger, please call 911 (9-911 from a campus phone).

The following are 24/7 resources for an immediate response:

  • Resources for Living: 888-238-6232 CR
  • Santa Clara County Suicide and Crisis Hotline: 855-278-4204 CR
  • San Mateo County Suicide and Crisis Hotline: 650-368-6655 CR
  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 800-273-8255 CR

Privacy and Information Sharing

Professionals affiliated with Confidential Resources (CR) will gladly receive information about a person's well-being. Still, due to FERPA, HIPAA, or professional ethics, some resources, licensed health care providers, in particular, are often unable to provide reciprocal information regarding another. Not knowing can be frustrating, but it is an ethical and legal safeguard for privacy and confidentiality.

The following resources are available to all Stanford-appointed postdoctoral scholars. If at any time you need or want further assistance with these programs, please reach out to the Postdoc Benefits Office by email or phone at 650-724-9490.

A walk-thru guide of all mental health resources may help determine which resource is right for you.
