SHCA - Mental Health Benefit

Main content start

If you need immediate assistance with a mental health crisis, please call (800) 424-4047, where someone is always available to help 24/7.

Accessing care from a counselor, therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist is a covered benefit under SHCA. If you are not currently working with a mental health provider, you may use Aetna’s Directory of Health Care Professionals to find one in the SHCA network. If you are already established with a provider, or the provider you want to work with is not within the SHCA network, you may continue to see that person, but you will pay a different amount.

  • In-network providers: $5 copay for a therapist, counselor, psychologist, or psychiatrist
  • Out-of-network providers: The plan will pay 80% of the allowed amount for service. The member pays 20% plus any balance billing. For example, if the billed charge is $400, but Aetna has an allowed amount of $300, the plan pays 80% of $300, $240.The member pays 20% of $300, $60, plus the $100 (balance billing) not allowed by Aetna.

SHCA members can access Pacific Anxiety Group and Peninsula Behavioral Health, which now offer video visits. Both groups are considered in-network.

SHCA Members can access licensed therapists, counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists through Teladoc For Behavioral Health. See a therapist regularly, just as you would in person. All visits are virtual and free.

SHCA Members can access counseling, therapy, and medication services through Talkspace, a digital space for private and convenient mental health support. The cost is $5 per visit.

If you need further confidential assistance with any mental health or substance abuse programs through SHCA, please reach out to a Member Care Specialist, available Mon - Fri, 6:30 am - 7 pm at (855)-345-7422
