Disability
Our disability programs are designed to replace a portion of your income if you are unable to work due to an accident, sickness or pregnancy.
We offer two separate Short-Term Disability plans as well as a Long-Term Disability plan to help protect you and your family when you need it the most. These plans work in conjunction with other disability plans you may be eligible for.

Life Insurance
The life insurance plan provided by The Standard provides basic life and accident coverage through Standard Insurance Company, in the amount of $50,000, and is payable to your beneficiary in the event of your death from any cause.

Travel Insurance
Basic travel insurance is provided by Assist America at no-charge and provides assistance for emergencies and non-emergencies when traveling more than 100 miles from your home.
Extended travel insurance is available for purchase for any postdoc needing more coverage than what the basic plan offers. This plan is primarily for those postdoc in the United States on a J visa needing to meet certain Department of State requirements.

Retirement Savings Options
Salary paid postdocs have two retirement investment options, the Tax Defered Account (TDA) and the Roth 403(b) After-Tax Retirement Savings Plan. You contribute pre-tax dollars to the TDA and after tax dollars to the Roth IRA. No matching contributions are made on behalf of Stanford for anyone enrolled in the TDA or Roth IRA.
Retirement savings options are not available to stipend paid or outside funded postdocs as contributions to these two accounts must come from Stanford wages. The IRS does not consider stipend pay to be wages. Outside funded postdocs are not paid through the Stanford payroll office
